Questions & Support

Answers, and a real phone number

Everything below is written out in full. If your question is not here, call or email and a person will answer it.

Getting started

Do I need a credit card to start?

No. The 21-day free trial includes every feature on every plan, and no card is asked for at sign-up. You only choose a plan when you decide to keep going, so if ShiftAnchor is not right for you, nothing happens and nothing is charged.

How long does setup actually take?

Creating the business takes about two minutes: a name, your timezone, and the day your week starts on. Adding people is the part that varies. You can create accounts yourself, or send one invite link and let staff sign themselves up on their phones, which is faster for a team of any size.

Do my employees need to download anything?

No. You share an invite link, they create their own login, and everything works in their phone's browser: their shifts, clocking in and out, and requests. They can add it to their home screen so it opens like an app, but there is nothing to install and no app store account needed.

What happens when my trial ends?

Your account locks to the Billing page until you choose a plan. Nothing is deleted, and no data is lost. Subscribe and you pick up exactly where you left off, with the schedules, timesheets and history you already built.

The time clock and hours

How does the time clock affect pay?

Pay follows the scheduled hours. Punches are attendance records: they tell you who turned up and when, but they do not silently change what someone is paid. The exception is when a manager edits a punch. If somebody genuinely stayed two hours late, you edit the punch and that becomes what is paid. A human decides, rather than the system guessing.

What if someone forgets to clock out?

Nothing breaks, and nobody is overpaid. Because pay runs off the scheduled hours, a missing punch does not inflate anyone's total. It appears as an alert on your dashboard and on the Time Clock page so you know to look at it. If the hours really were different from the schedule, you edit the punch and the corrected time is what gets paid.

How do breaks get handled?

Shifts longer than five hours automatically have a 30-minute unpaid break deducted. That rule is applied in one place and used everywhere: the schedule, the timesheet, the pay statements and the payroll exports all show hours net of breaks. A shift of eight hours therefore shows as 7.50 paid hours, which is what payroll receives.

Can I use it on a phone?

Yes, and most staff only ever use it on a phone. The employee side is built for mobile: this week's shifts, a clock in and out button with a live running timer, and a form for time off. It also works mixed, so you can build the schedule on a desktop while your whole team uses phones. It is one live system, so a change you make appears on their screen without them refreshing anything.

Pay, timesheets and payroll

Does ShiftAnchor actually pay people?

No. ShiftAnchor produces the timesheet and the import file, and stops there. Actually moving money requires a bank or a payroll processor, and that is deliberately outside what we do. What you get is a signed set of hours and a file your payroll system can import, so the numbers arrive clean rather than being retyped by hand.

Can I export to my payroll provider?

Yes. From the Timesheets page you can download a CSV shaped for ADP Workforce Now or Workday, or a generic CSV for anything else. You can also print per-employee PDF pay statements with breaks already deducted, or connect a payroll API for direct sync. The hourly rate in the export is derived from the gross being paid, so rate times hours always reconciles to the cent.

What happens to a signed timesheet if I change a pay rate?

Nothing. A signed week is frozen at the numbers it was signed with, so a pay rise next month cannot quietly rewrite a week you already paid. That is the whole reason signing exists. If you deliberately need to correct a locked week, you unlock it, regenerate it, and sign it again, which leaves a clear record that it was changed on purpose.

Can I hide pay rates from managers?

Yes. Seeing and setting pay rates is a permission, and you can switch it off for Managers and Supervisors independently in Settings under Role permissions. Turn it off and those users can still build the schedule and run the time clock, but pay rates, pay adjustments and the money columns are not visible to them. The Owner role always keeps full access.

Someone called in sick. How does that work?

Log a sick day against them on the Timesheets page, marked paid or unpaid, and remove the shift they were rostered for. A paid sick day is credited instead of the shift it covers rather than on top of it, so the day is paid once. Sick days are counted per employee for the year, so you always have an answer to how many days somebody has taken.

Plans and billing

What if we go over the plan employee limit?

Essentials covers up to 20 employees and Professional covers up to 95. If adding somebody would take you past your plan's limit, ShiftAnchor tells you at that moment rather than letting it fail quietly, and you upgrade to continue. Above Professional, call 778 858 3885 for a custom quote.

How is the price calculated?

Pricing is per employee, per month, so your bill follows your headcount. As people join or leave, the seat count adjusts automatically and the amount is prorated. The Owner seat is free: you are billed for your staff, not for yourself. All prices are in Canadian dollars.

Can I change plans or cancel?

Anytime, from the Billing page. Cancelling schedules the subscription to end at the end of the period you have already paid for, so you keep access until then, and you can resume before that date if you change your mind. Switching plans takes effect immediately and the difference is prorated.
